Oreways Mining (Pty) Ltd is the South African based procurement arm for the multinational smelter: The Yitai Technology Group, headquartered in China. Our operations are directly focused on the responsible procurement of minerals for the group.

There are no middle-men; as we will be sourcing and purchasing from reputable and ethical suppliers directly for The Yitai Technology Group. Yitai Technology Group has purpose built a Ferro Chrome refinery in need of South African Chrome Concentrate. The Ferro Chrome refinery is equipped with two (2) 48 000KW electric furnaces, soon to be undergoing trial production.

The Yitai Technology Group already owns and operates a Ferro Nickel refinery from the Chinese mainland. Oreways Mining (Pty) Ltd is a registered South African company and we are fully compliant with all statutory requirements. We also adhere to OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.

We comply with the legal and regulatory framework for responsible mineral procurement in South Africa, which sets out the standards and requirements for protecting human rights and the environment in the mineral sector. Whilst our initial focus will be on sourcing South African chrome concentrate, we have an expansion strategy in place that will see us entering the market as purchasers of other metals and minerals from responsible South African suppliers.

China is by far South Africa’s largest global trading partner. The bilateral trade grew exponentially over the years, increasing from less than R1 billion in 1998 to the current levels of R544 billion in 2021, despite the COVID-19 pandemic1.

South Africa is also China’s number one trading partner in Africa.

The mutually beneficial relationship supports South Africa’s foreign policy objectives towards the achievement of its domestic development imperatives, as well as promotes the broader socio-economic development goals of the African continent.

We, as Oreways, have a long-term strategy in place for the expansion and advancement of our operations within the sector, which will provide a value offering that our suppliers, South African communities and NGOs will all benefit from.
